To run the PHP Socket Server as a service we created a bash script for Debian / Ubuntu and it should also work on other linux based server with slight modifications.

The bash script:

Copy the code above into a file called jakchat. Change the PATH_TO_THE_SOCKET_SERVER to actual path your Rhino WebSocket is installed.

Now copy this file to your server in the /etc/init.d directory.

Important now is to set the correct permission to following files:

• /etc/init.d/jakchat
• socketserver.php

We do that with following command.

chmod a+x etc/init.d/jakchat

Press Enter

chmod a+x path_to_rhino/socketserver.php

Press Enter

Now you can start the PHP Daemon with following command.

service jakchat start

You can also use stop|status|restart|reload|force-reload.

To start the service automatically when your server reboots you can use following command.

update-rc.d jakchat defaults

If you want to remove it from the reboot use following command.

update-rc.d jakchat remove
